In 1959, Richard Snellinger decided to establish Typo 12 Federal Credit Union a credt union for local printers and their families. He conducted business right from his home in Baltimore, with his wife and children helping out.
Over the years, the Credit Union began to grow, and we had to move. Our first official location was on Calvert Street in Baltimore City; from there we moved into a larger office on Satyr Hill Road in Parkville.
Through the years the printing industry has changed dramatically causing some printing companies to close. As we noticed such changes Typo 12 changed their charter and received a multiple bond, which allows any company whether they employ one or a thousand employee to have the opportunity to join our field of membership.
Today we are at our newest location in Towson, along with our new location came our new name. We have not merged, nor has another credit union taken over. "Typo 12" is associated with printing; therefore we changed our name so that other companies would know they have the opportunity and benefit to join.
We believe that with the new name change; will come new companies, and in turn new members!
Mr. Snellinger, and his daughter Maureen DeCarlo, are still very much active today with 1st Alliance. Maureen is the Manager/Treasurer , who still today believes in the personal relationship that members should have with their credit union. Mr. Snellinger is an active member of the board, and is looking forward to the many new opportunities that will be available to all members.
